Benefits of breakfast

Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day and it can make or break a diet, as it helps set the tone for the rest of the day. Not only that, but the NHS says “Eating breakfast has long term health benefits too. It can reduce obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease and even diabetes”.

While adults need to eat breakfast each day to perform their best, kids need it even more. Their growing bodies and developing brains rely heavily on the regular intake of food. When kids skip breakfast, they can end up going for long periods of time without food and this period of semi-starvation can create a lot of physical, intellectual, and behavioral problems for them.

One in four people skip breakfast during the week and one in six adults never eat it; according to research, skipping meals, especially breakfast, can actually make weight control more difficult. Breakfast skippers tend to eat more food than usual at the next meal or nibble on high-calorie snacks to stave off hunger. The main reason people skip breakfast is that they’re short on time, think about ways of gaining time by keeping breakfast simple, either by waking up 10 minutes earlier or getting other chores out of the way ahead of time.

So, if you’re one of those people who think skipping breakfast is a good way to lose weight... think again.
