Boxing isn’t just about two people getting in the ring and beating ten tons out of each other. It teaches you discipline, boosts your confidence and has a huge impact on your overall fitness. But you don’t have to be preparing for a fight to reap the benefits of boxing. Most people would think that it’s all about the physical contact but using boxing as part of your training doesn’t need to include burst noses. Seriously, if you take away the fighting element you are left with a tough workout no matter what age or level of fitness you are. Weight loss, increased agility and coordination, muscle tone and greater fitness all result from boxing and although a highly contested boxing match in itself may be stressful, training for boxing by hitting a heavy bag or doing pad work will provide a great outlet for stress. Intense exercise triggers the release of feel-good hormones called endorphins, which leave you feeling happy, confident and less stressed.
Resistance training strengthens bones and reduces the progression of osteoporosis. Pads and punching bags provide resistance, as does your own bodyweight when we perform push ups, dips, pull ups and various other exercises. Your joints, tendons and ligaments will also get stronger in response to punching against resistance
A boxing workout with me can include pad and bag work, skipping, ground work and body weight exercises. These can be high repetition workouts or High Intensity Interval Training sessions, either way they will leave you sweating, exhausted and feeling great by the end of every session.
